And just like that, Web Summit 2022 has come to a close. With countless people, endless connections, and a wealth of impressions, it feels like we’re still buzzing from the experience. After taking some time to reflect on everything we’ve learned and the incredible input we received, we’re excited to share our highlights and key takeaways from the event.
Highlights and Impressions from Web Summit
First off, let’s talk about Portugal—what a stunning place! Despite a bit of rain, we were treated to mostly sunny days, and good weather always sets the tone for a great experience.
As for the event itself, one of the biggest highlights was that we were the first biohacking startup ever to be invited to Web Summit! This is no small feat, given that Web Summit is the world’s largest startup and tech conference, boasting over 71,000 attendees this year. That’s right—71,000!
We made sure to go all in, showcasing ourselves to the world in a bold and unforgettable way. We had some fantastic conversations, pitched live on stage, and even displayed our message on biohacking across screens throughout the venue. We also took a big leap and set up a booth for one full day.
From 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, we were fully immersed—there wasn’t a single dull moment. The energy was electric, with fascinating people constantly stopping by to learn more about our mission. Time flew by as we shared our vision and connected with attendees.
The Startup Showcase
One of the standout moments for us was the startup showcase, where we had the opportunity to present the mission behind Luminousred. We shared our vision of addressing the growing issue of increased lifespans without adequately considering healthspans. The conversation we sparked around this topic was inspiring, and we’re more motivated than ever to spread the word about the importance of health and biohacking.
Inspiring Talks
When we weren’t at our booth, we were soaking up insights from some of the event’s most brilliant minds. One talk that stood out was from NordVPN, which has been bootstrapped for 20 years and recently secured its first-ever funding—over $100 million! Hearing such a phenomenal success story left us in awe and deeply inspired.
Finding Moments of Rest
After long, stimulating days filled with conversations, pitches, and learning, we discovered a hidden gem in Lisbon: a rooftop terrace on the 8th floor of a building in the old town. This spot became our favorite retreat, offering breathtaking views and a peaceful place to reflect on the day’s events.
Lessons Learned
A key takeaway from Web Summit was realizing that finding the right investor is as much about the connection we form with them as it is about what they can offer us. This realization has encouraged us to be brave and pursue the right partner—someone who aligns with our mission and vision.
More importantly, we’ve learned to be bolder. It’s time to be louder, prouder, and more confident about how far we’ve come as a company. This renewed sense of self-assurance is something we’re excited to channel into sharing our vision, our future plans, and the groundbreaking developments we have in store for Luminous Labs.
